Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brown ground beef and sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  6. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and parsley.
  7. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and meat sauce. Repeat layers, finishing with meat sauce and Parmesan cheese.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Freeze leftovers for up to 3 months.
  • Add spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor.
